Development On Final Fantasy 9 Remake Reportedly "No Longer Moving Forward"

Despite Square Enix still in the trenches with development on Final Fantasy VII Revelation, rumours have persisted that a remake of Final Fantasy IX isn't too far behind.
Unfortunately, according to a comment from Alex Donaldson (Editor, RPG Site) over on Reset Era, development on the remake is "no longer moving forward". He says that the game would have been a single entry rather than split across multiple releases, and that development was "very far along".
